Vallejo Rotary Club's protocol for nominating a prospective new member:

  1. If a member in good standing thinks someone would make a good Rotarian, before they say anything to the prospective Rotarian, they are to request a New Member Proposal form from the Secretary.
  2. They fill out the form to the best of their ability without speaking to the person proposed.   The proposed member is submitted to the Board of Directors at their next available meeting for consideration. If the proposed member is approved at this level, their name will be published in the club bulletin (the Propeller) for 3 consecutive issues.
  3. If, during the time the name is published, no current Rotarian objects to the prospective member, the proposer will be notified and should at this time invite the prospective member to a meeting.  This is when the prospective member should be told about Rotary ... who we are ... what we do ... etc.
  4. After they have attended a meeting they can and should be asked if they are interested in becoming a Rotarian.  They must then attend 2 more meetings (3 total ... this is where people get confused about the 3 meeting thing) ... again, if no objections are raised by a Rotarian or the prospective member then they would be inducted at the 4th meeting.
